Frequently asked questions.
Do I need to be an elite climber to work with you?
No. What matters is that you want to improve and you've started to realise that the ceiling isn't just physical. The mental game is a limiting factor at every level — the gap between capability and consistent performance exists whether you're climbing 6a or 9a.
How do I know which option is right for me?
That's exactly what the discovery call is for. As a rough guide: if you have a specific goal or want to experience the work before committing, The Focus Block is a good starting point. If you want to build the whole foundation and fundamentally change how you approach performance and your relationship with the sport, The Long Game is the right path. If you're not sure, we'll work it out together on the call.
Is this therapy or coaching — what's the difference?
This isn't traditional talk therapy — we're not here to process your past. But the tools and approaches are drawn from the same clinical foundation, and the work starts with the whole person. I take a holistic view — I don't believe we can perform at our peak unless we have a genuine acceptance of who we are. That means we always begin with mental health and wellbeing as the foundation, and build performance on top of that. The goal is performance — but we get there through the whole person, not around them.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are 60-90 minutes via video call, or in person when we're in the same place. We'll review what's happened since the last session, work through whatever is most relevant — whether that's foundation work, a specific performance challenge, or reviewing how a recent attempt went — and finish with clear actions to take into the next training block or climb.
What happens between sessions?
Quite a lot, actually. The work doesn't stop when the call ends. Between sessions you'll have exercises, journaling prompts, and specific things to practise — on and off the wall. If you're on The Long Game you'll also have access to messaging support during the week. Progress happens in the space between sessions as much as in them.
How long before I start seeing results?
It depends on what you're working on and where you're starting from. Some shifts happen quickly — particularly around how you relate to failure and pressure. Building a stable foundation takes longer, but it's also more durable. As a rough guide, most clients notice meaningful change within the first 5-6 sessions. The deeper work compounds over months, not weeks.
What if I'm not a climber?
The principles are the same regardless of sport. The language adapts. I've worked with athletes across different disciplines and the foundation — self-worth, identity, execution under pressure, resilience — is universal. Get in touch and we'll work out if it's a good fit.
Can I switch from The Focus Block to The Long Game?
Yes. If you start with a Focus Block and decide you want to continue into longer term work, we'll pick up exactly where we left off. Nothing is lost — the work you've done in the block becomes the foundation for what comes next.
What if I'm mid-season — is it a bad time to start?
Not necessarily. In fact starting mid-season can be useful — there are real situations to work with, not just hypotheticals. We'd be realistic about what we can build in a short window and prioritise what's most useful for where you are right now. The foundation work can begin at any point.
Can I pause if I get injured?
Yes. Life happens. If you're injured or something significant comes up, we'll find a way to make it work. The sessions don't disappear — we'll pick back up when you're ready. If the injury itself is something you want to work through — rebuilding confidence, managing the mental side of recovery — that's very much within scope too.
What is your refund policy?
Because we begin with a free discovery call, we don't offer refunds on session blocks once work has begun. However, if you've purchased a 10-session Focus Block and haven't used any sessions, we'll refund 50%. If something comes up mid-block — injury, life — we'll always find a way to make it work.
